Modest Mouse has a very unique sound. To describe who they sound similar to would be a waste of air and time. Each album of their's I've listened to has a different feeling, tone, sounds, and purpose. My favorite albums of MM's is prolly Moon & Antartica. Why? It's thought provoking, calm for the most part, and you are almost guaranteed to go around humming and singing at least one song off the album. Unfortunately, in my opinion, the songs MM has placed into mainstream media doesn't give justice to their full capability. To understand and judge whether you like MM or not, you have to be willing to listen to at least five of their songs. For me, I appriciate that they don't follow anyone else's sound or style. I like the fact that they are experimental with the tone and moods from one song to the next. If there's alot going on in your life and there's simply to much to deal with, MM will definately sit you down, like a psychologist, and walk you through all your emotions.
