Curtiss-Wright P-36 40-228
This P-36 crashed on the Wailua Sugar Cane plantation, Oahu Hawaii U.S.A., due to a mid-air collision with another P-36. The serial number 40-228 was found on a brass manufacturing plate on one of the landing gear legs.

The P-36 crash site. Several large pieces of the aircraft are seen in the background. Several other small items were found at the crash site: an aluminum rudder pedal with part number 75 (currently on display at the Warbirds Remembered Musuem, TN), two brass radio data plates (COIL SET C-217 and RADIO RECEIVER BC-AH 229 both with the serial number 372!), a tail wheel assembly, two main landing gear (above photos), several small dashboard warning lights, and three dated .30-06cal. shell casings. Several small pieces of aluminum skin were found with faint, burnt, traces of olive drab exterior paint.
