Chapter Information
The Legion of Vengeance are the Chapter featured in Quest 40,000. They have a colourful History and Background which is a story in it's own right. I have now begun to write the full history of this diverse and very strange Chapter.
Chapter Name: The Legion of Vengeance
Index Astartes Number: 0286
Homeworld: Nehekara, Rigel System
Founding Primarch: Prophesy
Current Chapter Lord: Caiaphas
Chapter Facts
Prophesy, the LoV primarch, was captured by Chaos during the Horus Heresy. during this time, he was injected with Alcohol. henceforth, all LoV Space marines suffer from a genetic Alcohol addiction, caused by Defects in the LoV Genepool.
The Previous LoV Lord, Von Drax was one of the Most Insane men in the Imperium's history. his complete inability to responsably rule a planet and Massive Army was the Least of the Chapter's problems. On several Occasions, he had planets fusion bombed because he didn't like the colour, he once ordered every cat on the Northern continent to be used as target practice for his new recruits. He was once ordered to suppress a Chaos invasion on a remote world near the Chapter's home world, but all that arrived was a note, drawn on the back of a bar napkin, which said "didn't feel like coming, sorry 'bout the troops, love V D" He plunged The Chapter's economy into Crisis and was eventually assasinated by one of his own Captains.
The Long running rivalry between the Space Marines and the Sisters of Battle does not Apply on Nehekara. Commander Moe has enjoyed a 7 year relationship with a Snow Maidens Commander called Alyssa, while Brother Hutchi is engaged to the Order's Cannoness, Careem.
The History of the Legion of Vengeance
The Age of Strife, a War lasting 5,000 years, which had devastated the domain of man, shattered innumerate worlds and taken the Human race to the Brink of Extinction at the hands of Chaos, was ended by the Emperor when he recovered his ultimate creation: the Primarchs from the clutches of the nightmare Creatures of the warp. He used these genetically engineered super warriors to smash the Chaos Occupation base on Earth, then launch a massive campaign to drive the foul things back into the Eye of Terror.
Each Primarch was charged with the task of creating a Chapter of Space Marines. According to dictatus Astartes, there would be one thousand Chapters, each consisting of one thousand Space marines. One primarch, Prophesy displayed Immense Psychic Powers, and The first Section of the History is dedicated to his tale...
The Prophecy of Prophesy.
Before their gestation period was complete, all 1000 primarchs were snatched away by Chaos, and seeded throughout warp space. it took the Emperor years to locate them all. Prophesy found himself on a remote world named Lamosa. it was here, he was adopted by a family. they took the young Primarch in, never suspecting what he was or what he had the potential to become. Prophesy spent three decades on Lamosa, during which time, he reached maturity then his aging slowed almost to a halt. He worked mostly as a farm hand, unable to understand why he had the ability to make the cows fly, just by wishing it, and the other farm hands didn't. Then, like a Dark tide of Death, the Forces of Khorne swept down on Lamosa and began razing the whole planet and tearing out the souls of the Population. Prophesy, defended his home and his adopted family viciously, and many Chaos Followers fell. just as the young primarch was about to be overwhelmed by their weight of numbers, he disappeared. Prophesy had been teleported aboard the Emperor's ship, Enlightenment.
He watched with horror out of the porthole as the world on which he grew up was dragged into the warp.
Prophesy swore revenge on all the forces of Chaos and their allies (the reason why his chapter would later become known as the Legion of Vengeance) Prophesy joined the Emperor's crusade to find the remaining primarchs, at the same time completing his training and learning of his destiny.
Eventually, when all 1000 primarchs were safe, Enlightenment headed back to Earth. It arrived just in time to save Earth's newly crowned capital, Middlesbrough from annihilation. A vicious battle for control of the Human homeworld ensued. Eventually, The Emperor and the Primarchs smashed the Chaos occupation base in North America and secured Terra.
Within a few years, The Chaos forces had been driven so far back towards the Eye, they gave up this particular invasion as a bad job and Quit the Human empire.
The newly formed Imperium was without a military, and The Emperor ordered each Primarch to set up a Space Marine chapter as detailed in the Codex Astartes. Prophesy set up the LoV and chose the Planet Sokar, on the Eastern Fringe to build it. and so, the imperium began to establish itself as the supreme power in the Galaxy.
The Horus Heresy
For ten thousand years, the Imperium of Man expanded. with the space Marines as the driving force behind this expansion, and later the Imperial Guard in support, the Human race seemed sure to conquer the entire galaxy and go on even further. but fate has a way of stopping such expansionism and in this case, it came around the 31st millennium.
During their time in the warp, the Primarchs had been exposed to the corrupting power of Chaos. some more than others, and one, Horus, the primarch of the Emperor's Children Space Marine Chapter, was turned irreversably to Chaos. he led his own chapter and eight others on a barbaric dance of Death right across the mperium. with the forces of Chaos as his allies, he was able to go toe to toe with the Emperor and very nearly overthrew him.
The Legion of Vengeance spent many of the Early days of the war defending Sokar from chaos attacks. finally, they teamed up with the Ultramarines and cleared out all Chaos activity on the Eastern fringe. however, things were not going quite so well in other parts of the Imperium, and the Chaos forces were closing in on Earth itself. Worse still, Prophesy was captured in the Legion of Vengeance's last engagement with Chaos and taken back to a Chaos facility. He was turned over the the Mad genetecist, Fabius Bile who had all kinds of unpleasant experiments lined up. he extracted a measure of Prophesy's blood and replaced it with alcohol. this would eventually lead to the Legion's addiction to the substance, but it also gave prophesy amazing strength, temporarily. he broke free from the facility, pausing only to break bile's neck and destroy the blood sample. Bile's Chirugeon regenerated him, but by that time, Prophesy was long gone.
Even as these Events were taking place, Horus was beginning his final attack on Terra. all manner of hideous creations smashed their way through the defenders at Middlesbrough and stormed the palace, as this was happening, the Emperor journeyed up to Horus's Command ship, the
Exterminator, in orbit over the planet.
As the Emperor and Horus battled to decide the future of Humanity, Prophesy arrived in Earth Space in a Chaos cruiser he'd borrowed from the base he'd just escaped from.
Prophesy helped smash a Chaos blockade which was preventing supplies from reaching imperial forces in the city. he then crashed his ship into the side of the exterminator and boarded the Chaos Command ship.
FInally, the Emperor sealed Horus's fate, but suffered a mortal injury himself in the process. Prophesy helped the Emperor off the stricken Chaos Mothership and back into his transport.
The Detonantion of the Exterminator could be seen even in daylight over Middlesbrough and the chaos forces, knowing they had lost, fled.
The Emperor was interred within the Golden throne of Earth to sustain his life eternally. The Imperium was victorious.
The Destruction of Sokar
The next section of the history will detail how the first Legion of Vengeance homeworld, Sokar was destroyed and Prophesy killed.
