| PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
My Very Dear Queens Villagers,
The warmer days of spring, with beautiful nights for sleeping, are here
again as designed by nature.
This is my favorite time of the year:
warm days and cool, comfortable nights. I hope it’s yours,
too.
On a recent walking tour of our civic area, I readily noticed two negatives:
unlicensed vehicles parked
in driveways and cracked and uneven sidewalks.
Storing unlicensed vehicles (without license plates) on your property is
a violation of Buildings Department law subjecting you to substantial fines.
Get rid of them. Donate them to a charitable organization that will
provide you with a tax credit. In our April newsletter, we informed
you that the Department of Transportation (DOT) was surveying the sidewalks
of Queens Village to determine which ones were in need of repairs.
If you receive a written notice that your sidewalk must be fixed or replaced,
do not ignore it. If you do not make the repairs, DOT will have the
work done and charge you for it. Should your sidewalk be found defective
and you do not agree with the decision, call (718) 391-9259 for a reevaluation
within 45 days of receiving the notice.
We will be electing our officers for the 2004-2005 civic year at the meeting.
The nomination for President is still open. If you are interested
in this position, please let us know at the meeting.
There are two very important happenings that need our full support and
participation: a hearing to renew the Cease and Desist Law on May
20 and the rally to stop the Overbuilding of Queens on June 2. (Please
refer to articles in the news page.) We are asking you to be
there in person to voice your support of the quality-of-life issues at
stake.
Monday, May31, is Memorial Day. Remember to display Old Glory proudly.
We hope that you will be
able to attend Memorial Day ceremonies in
Veteran’s Park Plaza, Springfield Boulevard and Jamaica Avenue, beginning
at 11:00 A. M. This tribute to our veterans will be conducted by
American Legion Post 301 and its Auxiliary.
Join our civic association to help us attain a high quality-of-life for
Queens Village. Ask your friends
and neighbors to do likewise. Your support
is gratefully appreciated.
Stay well. I hope to see you on May 18.
Best regards,
(signed)
