| PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
My Dear Queens Villagers,
Keeping warm is a top priority during these cold winter months, but we
must also worry about catching the flu that has been contagious throughout
our community, especially to the young and the elderly. If the flu bug
strikes, make sure you get the proper rest and nourishment you need to
get well.
Our meeting this month will be graced by Captain Michael Bryan, the new
Commander of the 105th Precinct. He will be our guest speaker and answer
questions from the floor. Come out and give Captain Bryan a warm Queens
Village Civic Association welcome!
Dues for our current civic year were due on September 1. As well as your
moral support, we need your financial help to operate our civic association.
If you haven’t as yet paid your current dues of $5.00, please do so. Dues
can be paid at our meetings or by sending your check to the address posted
in our Newsletter.
We extend our sympathies to the family of Joseph and Mirla Rivera Nickischer
on the death of Carmen Martinez de Rivera, a retired school teacher, at
the age of 91. Also to the family of Marie Hayes, a longtime member of
our association, who passed away this month.
Our Educational Award applications will be available at this month’s meeting.
We are proud to financially help deserving Queens Village students as they
pursue their education. (See details in the news page.)
Has education in School District 29 taken a back seat to politics? We would
like to hear your views on this subject. Let’s talk at the meeting. The
schools at Creedmoor are under construction, and we have to .take steps
now to ensure that our area children are accepted there.
I hope to see you on February 19. Keep warm and healthy. Celebrate Black
History Month. May God bless our country.
Best wishes,
(signed)
