PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

My Dear Queens Villagers,

I hope your holidays were happy and safe and that your gifts were bountiful. While we are in the grips of Old Man Winter, I am asking you to look out for the elderly and disabled, who are most vulnerable winter’s wrath. And, if you have not already done so, finish winterizing your home and your wardrobe. And it’s not too late to get your flu shot if you need it.

Our annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony held on December 14 in Veterans Park Plaza was sparsely attended because of the rainy weather. But the hot chocolate, homemade cookies, brownies, and cupcakes warmed the hearts of all who were there. Representatives of the FDNY and the 105 Precinct were in attendance along with Senator Frank Padavan, Assemblywoman Barbara Clark, and Jeff Gotlieb, from Councilman Weprin’s office.

I would like to take this opportunity to gratefully thank Rose Olson, our Financial Secretary, for the use of her home where we have our Executive Board meetings. Thank you, Rose, for your hospitality and graciousness.

There are several vacancies on Community Board 13. Anyone interested should call 464-9700 or see me at this month’s, meeting. Queens Village needs as many representatives there as possible to make our case for improvements in our community. We are presently underrepresented. Community Board 13, of which I am a member, has put into place procedures to document and to respond to quality of life issues such as
obtaining trees, removing dead trees, filling potholes, replacing street signs, sanitation complaints, traffic violations, building complaints.

Our newly elected Councilman David Weprin could not address us last month as scheduled due to a family emergency, but he will be the guest speaker, at this month’s meeting. This will be a great opportunity for you to meet our new Councilman and air problems in our community.  I am asking you to put your concerns in writing and give them to Councilman Weprin for his attention and action.

I hope to see you on January 15.

God Bless all of you, and God Bless America!

Best wishes,

(signed)    N. (Ram) Ramgarib
