Queen's Park's season plunged to a new low with a depressing loss at Coatbridge, the second time in the space of 4 days that Queen's had failed to score against one of the league's bottom clubs. The lack of any true scoring threat is now threatening to wreck Queen's season, and last night it was the same old story; much possession, but no idea in the final third. The thing is, hardly any chances were even created. David Weatherston missed a glorious chance to put Queen's ahead with 10 minutes to go, but shot straight at McGlynn; seven minutes before, Felvus's goal direct from a free-kick had been mysteriously disallowed. Bryan, showing a neat turn with free-kicks that had gone hitherto unnoticed, also hit the post during the second half with one. While Queen's seemed unlucky that such a fine goal didn't count, they offered little more than these attempts, and their play was infuriatingly predictable. Rovers secured the win with eight minutes to go, when after flat-out awful defending, Young was able to poke the ball home despite Crawford's attentions. Yet the defence would not have been put in such a situation had the play at the other end been up to standard. Queen's had no answer. The fact is, they've been exposed in the last 2 games by poor sides; they are unsure how to go about a game when the onus is on them to attack, and surely prefer it when the odds are stacked against them. That they are now close to being, following Arbroath's win last night; the gap between us and them is down to 2 points. So, Queen's have 6 games to salvage their season, and it's time for Billy Stark to prove once and for all that he has the fight, passion and belief to instil into the players that they can, and will, make these damned play-offs. He also has some necessary decisions to take regarding players whose performances have simply not been acceptable: Mark Ferry and Tommy Murray in particular.
