A comfortable win for Berwick at Hampden gave them their seventh league win in succession and pushed Queen's back to 7th place in the table. As so often, the first goal was crucial, and Berwick got it not long before half-time, Haynes rising above Sinclair to meet a wind-assisted cross. The second was added quickly after, Paul Ronald losing possession cheaply on the left, and letting Berwick steal forward into the box. A token challenge, and David Greenhill drove the ball into the far corner. Queen's had conjured up a few earlier chances, but David Weatherston seemed to be carrying an injury and second-half replacement Frankie Carroll will take time to regain his sharpness. We did come close to clawing our way back into it, but Mark Ferry's sliding shot came back off the post after Cairney had surged eagerly forward. All in all though, we rarely looked like scoring and Billy Stark finds himself in a difficult position; needing a new forward to partner Weatherston, but having already signed two back in the summer who, for differing reasons, have been unable to establish themselves. Once Kjartan Henry Finnbogason is counted, that's three quality forwards that Billy has tempted to the club in the last year. Can he get another? Does he need to, providing Frankie can recover? Our season is dependent on a positive answer to either of those questions.
