2001/02                                         33 ( 2 )  3

A mainstay of the team, and last season's official club player of the year, Tony suffered a broken leg at Cliftonhill in December and will not be involved again until next season. Queen's have certainly missed his drive and strength in the middle of the park, where he found a niche for himself after initially being fielded in defence. Good in the air, solid in the tackle, Tony is the type of player who wins the ball for others to do fancy things with it.
                             Steven Reilly

Born: Glasgow, 29th August 1981
Signed: from Stirling Albion, August 2003
Height: 6ft
Mass: 12st
Debut: vs. St. Mirren, Challenge Cup, 02/08/03

Steven Reilly missed the majority of last season through injury, having made 27 starts for Stirling Albion in 2001/02. He played largely as a defender for Stirling, either wide right or in the centre, but so far the indications are that Reilly will bolster further the midfield at Queen's Park. Given the shortage of out-and-out defenders at Queen's though, it may be he is required to utilise his versatility. Steven was on the books of both Motherwell and Hearts before 2001 but did not reach the first-team at either.
                             Johnny Whelan

Born: Liverpool, 10th October 1972
Signed: from Berwick Rangers, November 2001
Height: 6ft
Mass: 12st 3in
Debut: vs. Albion Rovers, 13/03/99

QP League Career                        Apps     Goals
1998/99                                           8                 1
1999/2000                                    27 ( 7 )      8
2001/02                                         21               4

Johnny Whelan is nothing less than a legendary figure at the club. Brought to the club from the quaintly named Total Network Solutions, Johnny was an inspiration to the championship-winning side in 2000. That alone would have cemented his place in the club's list of heroes, and his departure for Berwick of all clubs made it likely that he would be remembered only for this short stay. He didn't completely settle in Northumberland though, and returned to Queen's midway through 2001/02, playing in every remaining league game. His utter commitment and devotion to the cause was exemplified by his obvious sadness and frustration at missing a penalty at Dumbarton on the final day of last season: having earlier converted from the spot, this miss meant Queen's finished bottom of the league. He returned this season with performances showing plenty of application, though he has been off-form at times. But Whelan is undoubtedly a vital player for Queen's Park: and he can score goals as well.
