| A fantastic hard fought performance away to Ayr United at the weekend putting us top of the league early on in the season. The players are due to play in the challenge cup on Tuesday evening, against third division out-fit Stranraer at Hampden Park. Stuart Kettlewell, Stevie Canning and Alan Trouten were all on the score-sheet at somerset and will no doubt feel tired after such a phenomonil display, and have not got too long to rest before the challenge cup tie. All of the players put in an excellent shift and twenty-two year old Stuart McGrady played his vital part in the final few kicks of the game which eventually resulted in Alan Trouten collecting three points for Queen's Park. Stranraer on the other hand have three point out of six in the league and lost out in the CIS insurance cup first round match, after Montrose picked up a two - one win in Stranraer's own back yard. Gerry Britton has secured Heart of midlothian under nineteen striker Marc McCusker on a one-month loan deal. Marc should feature against us , but what we can expect from him is still unknown and was only givin a short period of time in Saturdays defeat to Albion Rovers, to make any real impression on manager Britton. The side lined-up as follows, in goal Mark Cairns, with the defensive line of Shaun Molloy, Damiano Agostini, Mick Dunlop and Paul Paton. The middle of the park was on form Alan Trouten, Tony Quinn, Stuart Kettlewell and Mark Ferry. And as i Robert Dunn returns after injury up front along with on fire and soon to be goal scorer Stevie Canning. As usuall the ball was soon moving around the park with queen's in posession. Chances in the first half for both teams could have seen the score line at half time, an easy two a piece but by half time in the spiders most boring match the score was level with the score and nil-nil. The challenge cup is a a cup that no one takes any real hunger to win it unless they themselves are in the final. But leading up to it, i for sure am not to fussed about it atall and by the look of both teams tonight i think it is fair to say that they are not fussed either. The first and only goal of the night came when Stevie Canning kept up his goalscoring and put a cheeky backheel past the stranraer keeper to give Queen's the eventuall challenge cup victory. Overall, this game was quite boring but i mean, it is the challange cup and to be honest and fair the players had worked a very tiering win against Ayr United at the weekend. Another one ahead of us on Saturday at home to relegated Ross County who will be looking for a straight promotion via the play-offs or the league title. The good news, no midweek game next week.
