| Welcome to a we-humped-you-in-the-quarters special of Oh Hampden. Last night was possibly the best match I have ever been at and Queen's fully deserved their win. The night was totally perfect. Good weather, great play and Johnny Whelan scoring against his old side. Berwick were shocking and although they came close at the end, the Hoops were the deserving victors. Johnny scoring was made more sweet by the fact that he was getting terrible flak from those English hooligans. Don't tar with the same brush? They're all the same, in my view. Ross Godfrey, the Berwick goalkeeper, was getting awful abuse from the Queen's faithful, but he deserved it. One error nearly ended in total shame, when he was tackled by Willie Martin after failing to control a pass back. Couldnae control his bladder! Tony Quinn and James Allan were wonderful and both deserved a joint man-of-the-match award. Allan's goal was perhaps the goal of the season. A tremendous run, culminating in a slow but accurate shot into the corner. The ground was awful and only 20% of the game could be seen. So much rigging in the bloody way! Close highlight of the day was when Keith McAllister entered a women's toilet by accident. Or was it? A police enquiry will surely follow. Here are my Queen's Park team ratings: Tony Mitchell - Helpless for the goal and mainly untested. Coped well with crosses and difficult shots, but rarely was called into action. 6/10 Danny Ferry - Captain tremendous. Once found himself on the left late on in the game. Criticism just bounces off him, and he put in another good shift last night. 7/10 Jim White - Struggled, but that's hardly surprising considering the lack of match practice. Will almost certainly be replaced by John Gallagher on Saturday against Morton. Subbed at half-time 5/10 Stephen Moffat - Very steady performance in the centre. Headed away most long balls that were humped into the QP box at the end. Very Good 8/10 Damiano Agostini - At blame for the goal, but admirably battled back. He and Mr. Moffat hammered everything away at the end, and you can't ask much more that that. 7/10 Tony Quinn - Simply wonderful. Threw himself in front of everything and ran up and down the park tirelessly. A huge improvement from Saturday. Led by example. Brilliant. 9/10 Craig Taggart - Got lost too often and was substituted. Kept the Berwick back four occupied though. 6/10 Johhny Whelan - Went down for the penalty, and then scored it. Stayed calm and delivered a performance which said " Get it right up ye. " But in a scouse accent, of course. 7/10 Willie Martin - Ran his arse off and produced his best game of the season. Just as well the Berwick men were wearing black shorts. He scared the shit out of them. 8/10 Steven Canning - Another good game for the youngster and he was unlucky not to score early on. Very good 8/10 James Allan - Wonderful. Wonderful, Wonderful. The best winger in the division. He was simply suberb and ran the Berwick defence ragged. Scored one the best goals you'll see all season. Marvellous 9/10 Subs Ric Sinclair - Played very well on return. On for the struggling White. 8/10 Ross Jackson - Scared the Berwick defence a few times and his pace was immense. 7/10 Chris Fisher - More pace!!! Good God. Made the Berwick team look like a bus full of zimmer-frames. 7/10 I'm off to school. |
