ALLEZ LES HOOPS
After a hard-fought performance, Queen's were eventually over-run by Dundee United at Tannadice in the League Cup 2nd round. It was certainly a game and journey to remember - the alternative route to get there - and Queen's were not destroyed as the scoreline may suggest. 4-1 was harsh on them, but a loss is a loss, and now QP must focus on the league again. Albion Rovers up next and a draw should be the very worst possible outcome. Most players played exceptionally well and they deserve much credit for their display. The team was also well backed by travelling die-hards and a collection of QP youth teams. Noise was sustained well, and I just hope that more of an atmosphere will be present this Saturday.

Steven Moffat returned for the Hoops, with Jimmy Allan still absent through injury. Gordon Lappin and Steven Canning started and Johnny Whelan was left on the bench.

Colin Stewart played well in goal for Queen's despite conceding four goals. After a free-kick was unfairly awarded by the veteran referee William Young, Steven O'Donnell floated a 20 yard effort over the wall and into Stewart's right hand corner. He maybe should have gotten across seeing as the ball wasn't going at a blistering pace, but it was well struck and also a brilliant opener for United. He was helpless for the second as the ball was chipped over him and into the net. Another fantastic goal for O'Donnell. Wonderful reflexes kept the score from increasing early in the second half and nothing could be done to halt goals 3 and 4.
Steven Fallon played well, but was guilty of leaving the right side of defence exposed on several occasions. Inexperience shone through, but played well considering the level of competition.
John Gallagher played one of his best games of the season so far, and although he was out-paced many times, his footballing brain kept Queen's steady - somewhat.
Steven Moffat returned and played another good game. He is an excellent and vital player.
Damiano Agostini recovered from Saturday and played well alongside Steven Moffat. They both need each other, as shown in past games. Intercepted and harried well.
Tony Quinn was quiet and was replaced by Johnny Whelan on 80 minutes. Unfortunate to be off-form on such a big night.
Danny Ferry was brilliant. His best game of the season so far, he played like a true captain and led by example. Unlucky not to score near the end. He is incredibly fit and hungry for the game. Superb.
Steven Canning ran, ran and ran, and scored the goal of his life. This youngster needs a boost and I think he got it last night. MUST be started against Rovers. A real promising talent.
Craig Taggart played his best game of the season so far, and perhaps should have scored in the first half. Looks to be fitting in better and there will be competition for the midfield jersey with Johnny Whelan. Replaced by John Gemmell who struggled with the pace of the game.
Gordon Lappin played competently and deserves some backing from the fans. Come on, Gordon!
Willie Martin put his body on the line on several occasions for the sake of the game. Went in where it hurted the most, paid the price, and was substituted for Stuart Jack following an injury. Should be fit for Saturday.
