Scene 3

(The next morning. FAITH sits on the couch in the basement. She is  zoned out in front of the TV. MARK enters.)

MARK. Bailey?

FAITH. Not here.

MARK. Oh. (pauses) You know where he is?

FAITH. Probably wiping up the tears of Princess Perfect.

MARK. He told me to meet him this morning.

FAITH. Hes out. Trying to get a hold of Julie. Shes not doing so well.

MARK. I dont know if shell ever be okay with it. (pauses) Can I sit down?

FAITH. Do what you want.

MARK. About yesterday, look, Im sorry.

FAITH. Sorry about what? Im totally over it.

MARK. Really?

FAITH. Yes. Really. Youre not that much of a stud Mark.

MARK. Well, what I wanted to say is that, if you wanted to try to make it work,  maybe we could-

FAITH. She rejected you didnt she?

MARK. Huh?

FAITH. This Claire girl. She told you to fuck off.

MARK. Those werent her exact words, but yeah. She said shes changed too  much for us to be together anymore.

FAITH. So, the ex wont take you back and now you come crawling back to me.

MARK. Im not crawling. Fuck you. I just thought-

FAITH.  You just thought that any pussy is better than no pussy.

MARK. Youre putting words in my mouth-

FAITH. Someone has to. You dont seem to have an original thought in your  head.

MARK. Me? What about you? You sound like every other rebellious teen Ive  heard of. I mean, why the hell were you attracted to me in the first place?  Because I dress like this? Because I dont care if your brothers a fag?  Because I dont give a shit about your appearance or mine? Is that it?  Because, fuck Faith, I dont think you know anything about me.

FAITH. (pauses) Youre right. I dont. But, I think we felt something. A connection  if you will.

MARK. A connection?

FAITH. Yeah, when I saw you sitting there yesterday, I thought, hey, theres a  guy who may understand me. And its not because I like your clothes, your  hair, your make-up or your stupid beliefs. Its because I believe were  alike, you and I, and we can help each other.

MARK. Help each other do what?

FAITH. Change. Become the people were supposed to become.

MARK. So, we help each other grow? And then what? What happens if we hate  who weve grown into?

FAITH. Then theres always rehab.

(They smile at each other as the lights fade)
