THE STORY

POWER, INNOCENCE, PASSION

Queen Vashti leads the woman of ancient Persia in a
revolt against male domination.  She is quickly
banished by King Xerxes.  A new Queen emerges.
It is Esther, a charming, beautiful orphan who is
Jewish. This fact is withheld from the King, who
falls deeply in love with her.

INTRIGUE, CRISIS, HEROISM

Haman, the Prime Minister, seeks to use the Jews
as scapegoats in his quest for royal power.  Esther,
by risking her life, outwits him and with the help of
her Uncle Mordecai, exposes him to King Xerxes.

Haman is executed and the King gives the Jews the
right to defend themselves against all enemies,
saving them from annihilation.  Esther emerges as
          the heroic, triumphant queen.

While the story contains many serious themes, the
treatment of these ideas is spirited.
