Brians first school was the Hampton boarding school. Inspired by Lonnie Donegan, The Shadows, The Ventures and Buddy Holly, started he at the age of 15 to play guitar in several bands. However the most of those bands didnt came any further than repeting a bit in a garage. At his boarding school there was a band called The Others, they made a single back in 1964 with a version of Oh Yeah. Because May liked to improvise with everybody that would like to play, can be the reason some people think he was a member of that band, but he wasn;t.
While the others had their big moment, and when The Sands made a single, and dissapeared after it, May started a project that was made for the future: building an own electric guitar to own design. This was all because he couldnt afford a Fender Stratocaster, of which he dreamed to have, so he build one himself with a little help from his father, with his own design. They both had experience with wood and metal, so it wasnt that difficult for those two. The guitar is made from old wood, over 200 years old and some parts from a motorbike. This guitar had costed back then 8 GBP. This guitar Brian jused for all Queens hits and used it most of the time during the concerts.
In 1967 started his study physics at the Imperial College.. In a short time he saw it was possible to combine his study with making music. And he made an hand made advert for asking others at his College to join to make a band. One of the first reaction was from Tim Staffel, soon after that came Roger Taylor.
Soon more... (i think i make a queen history page, there will be the continue of this story)
