Other Atheletes

(More Richard)

The following is taken from an article printed US Olympic Team

Team USA S14 Relay (Swimming), dubbed the "Fearsome Foursome" (Acey Body, Andres Miyares, Nicholas Perry and Richard Mazur), won the 200m, 400m and 800m freestyle relays - and set new American records in the 400m and 800m events - in the S14 classification at the 2001 Disability Championships, June 22-24, in Phoenix, Ariz. The S14 classification distinguishes athletes with cognitive disabilities. The foursome, which took third place in Team of the Month honors, lowered the 400m American record by one minute and 14 seconds and the 800m mark by over two and one-half minutes.

I want to thank Lauren for keeping me advised of information concerning events as they become available. I would like to hear from others that would like to have items added. If you know of athletes that should receive recognition I would be more than happy to add them to these or any pages concerning disable sporting activities.

The up coming dates are June 13-15, 2002, (Thursday, Friday, Saturday). It's being held at the Weyerhaeuser/King County Aquatic Center. It's sanctioned by USA Swimming through Pacific Northwest Swimming (Sanction Number 0601-USA-02). For your information, the next 3 years will be back in MINN where it all started (Univ. of Minn).

TYR SPONSORS RICHARD MAZUR FOR NATIONALS...USA SWIMMING DISABILITIES NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS...PHOENIX SWIM CLUB... PHOENIX, ARIZONA JUNE 22-24, 2001

Dear Karen,
Thank you so much for the wonderful news. I know that Richard will be thrilled to hear about his new team TYR warm-up uniform, suit and bag. He and his coach also have the team's National t-shirt given to them by Coach Rose. With the TYR Mission Viejo warm-up I'm purchasing for his coach, Shawn Kornoelje, I know they will wear the team uniforms proudly.

Hopefully Richard will bring home more Gold Medals and American Records this year. Last year he won 7 Golds and 1 Silver medal. He broke and currently holds 6 American Records in the 200 m free, 400 m free, 800 m free, 1500 m free, 200 m back and he recently broke the 100 m fly. Richard (14 years old) is the youngest in his classification. His two toughest competitors are Acey Body (19 yrs) of Cleveland, Ohio and Andre Miyares (18 yrs) of Miami, Florida and Nicholas Perry (18 yrs).

This years competition will be tough. We have heard that Teams from Australia, Britain and Canada are coming to compete. They arrive in team uniforms fully outfitted by their sponsors. It is an exciting time and we hope for the best. Richard's goal..."Mom, all GOLDS this year!" Only God knows...
Kind regards, Lauren Mazur
