The Bandshell, Renzie Park
I believe the year was 1973 in the month of August(?) and the place was Renzie Park
at the Bandshell, McKeesport, Pennsylvania. The City was having concerts at the
Bandshell back then and the headliners for this particular concert were Diamond
Rio, Brownsville Station and a group not too many people in my hometown had heard
of by the name of Aerosmith. Aerosmith was the first group to perform and I remember
them flying over the crowd in a helicopter and landing in one of the ballfields
by the Bandshell. All I remember is that this was my first concert and was probably
one of the best I had seen. Wonder if anyone from Aerosmith remembers this?
My second encounter was when they did their Nine Lives tour in Pittsburgh in January,
1998. A local radio station was running a contest. Long story short is that I
won the contest with the prize being a Sony camcorder and back stages passes to
meet the group. I got to tape a bit of back stage and having our pictures taken
with the group. It was nice meeting them, but too many people to engage in any
type of conversation. First experience back stage, and more and likely the last
but it was a very memorable experience.
