Places Rated Almanac ranks the Mesa-Phoenix area as third in the nation for job availability; 19th, of 342 locations, for education; and 21st, of 343 locations, for the arts. Strengthened by its low cost of living, reasonable tax structure, low crime rate, superior schools, abundant recreational activities and affordable housing, Mesa's population grew by 89 percent during the 1980's. Its current population is approximately 345,000. Predicted to grow in population by more than 63 percent by the year 2020, Mesa is prepared for expansion as it was prior to the 1980's. Community leaders are planning for the future, ensuring that Mesa's quality of life, infrastructure and amenities will be more than adequate to support the future population and business growth.
