Custom Quilter Corliss Okerstrom Really Enjoying Life Now
-article appearing in the August-September edition of The Country Register
Both Corliss Okerstrom and her husband Robert were caught in "downsizing" by the large organizations they worked for. They each received a "package" that wasn't enough to ensure a comfortable retirement. After the initial adjustment period, Corliss turned to the internet to spend some time with fellow quilters, as quilting was one of the loves of her life.

She put the technology to good use, chatting with others having similar interests, and ultimately purchasing a 14-foot quilting machine.

Now, after mastering the capabilities of the quilting maching, including many, many hours of practice and training, Corliss is in the custom quilting business.

Many people today want quality quilts, but either don't have the time or are otherwise unable to complete their own. They can custom order a quilt to their liking from QUALITY QUILTING. Some of her customers even supply their own patterns, transferred onto quilts. These family quilts, although more expensive, are very popular.

Corliss goes that extra mile to ensure her customers get a quilt that is well made and built to stand the test of time. She does not shy away from intricate work on her machine. In fact she relishes it, and often avoids "straight" patterns, thus giving her quilts that special handmade look and feel.

As sole quilter in her enterprise, she does the work in the order it is received. That eliminates some of the pressure that might come from doing it another way, and her customers know that all are being treated fairly. As she knows how long it takes to produce a quilt, a delivery date can be fairly accurately predicted.

Starting as a child, using a Singer treadle machine, she has been sewing all her life. She is a member of the Moose Jaw Prairie Hearts Quilting Guild.

QUALITY QUILTING by Corliss Okerstrom is located in her home near Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. She can be reached by email [email protected] or by calling (306)693-2246. She will be happy to discuss your quilting needs.
