http://www.geocities.com/quakeserver149 Home page for the Frag_Garden server. I guess the road to hell is paved with good intentions. I do have cable modem access, but it just isn't comparable to quality internet access, at least not for something of the caliber to host a game server. I'm getting discouraged and wondering who would play anyway. Just like the South Park episode, everyone things Quake 1 is "so yesterday." I was on my favorite old game server at ctf1.quake.erols.com for a while tonight and nobody was there. In 1996 and 1997 I used to stay awake late nights in the dorm on a major ethernet network at a big ten university and just play and play forever. The heck with accounting homework, Quake was the bomb. Servers were loaded and it was just so funny. Sometimes you would mow over five people with the shotgun even if your health was at 20 when you started. Players would fall into the lava and once in a while if the physics were right, a rocket zapped body would fly spinning across a level. Gibbed heads would get stuck in the air with that hilarious expression, "the evil floating head of death." Telefrags, people whining of cheaters (an act that you could not do) and general teamplay or free for all fragging. Will I ever see a fun game of Quake Classic? At the local lan wars everyone wants to play Quake 2 (which sucks!) and Quake 3 (which is okay as a game, but it doesn't have anything that Q1 didn't have and if two things accomplish the same task, simpler is better. It doesn't matter what the pictures look like in a game. Pac Man wasn't cool because of the graphics.) The Lost World still sucked though the special effects were well budgeted. I was glad to finally have fired up linux and eventually find Quake 1 howto's on how to do it. Actually, there aren't several howto's on the topic; there is only one. The thing is that that one manual is copied exactly and there exist about 9 million of the same thing. So if you can't figure out from that, you are screwed for an explanation from another author.
