Physical Description: 
Sven is a very athletic looking individual, the result of long hours of  training.  Despite this, he is not "bulked" up, but more wiry like a long distance runner. His Lappish blood accentuates his cheekbones and the shape of his eyes, giving him a more exotic face than your average European.   His sense of style is not very sophisticated, but very sensible. 

Personality Description 
Sven comes from a remote, rural community from the Arctic north of Sweden, and his personality reflects this.  Like the people of North, he is an honest and very hardworking individual.  Because life is tough up there and the slightest mistake might lead to an icy death, Sven is highly organised,  making sure that the slightest detail is correct before starting his chores. He is very stubborn, but cares deeply about those around him and will never hesistate to help a friend out.  To those he is friends with, he is  loyal until the end, but he will never complain aloud to them about his problems, preferring to suffer in silence.  He also has a great sense of humour and never hesistates to poke fun at himself.  Sven loves the North with an almost spiritual passion.  One aspect that people often overlook with Sven is his competitiveness, and that is because he rarely competes with others.  He competes with himself and is constantly striving to improve 
himself, both physically and intellectually. On his time off, Sven likes nothing better than going out into the wilderness and living in harmony with nature.  He hunts and fishes with the best of them, but also enjoys spending time on a farm. 

Family 
Sven comes from a big family, 7 brothers and sisters.  His father died when he was 17 and his mother now runs the local post office.  The Winsa family descends from the founding father of the village 300 years ago. 

Pre X-Com History 
One may wonder why a country bumpkin from the frigid north is doing, knocking on the doors of X-Com. This is because Sven was selected for the prestigious Lapland Hunters during his compulsory military service.  This regiment is responsible for scouting the Arctic Circle during times of war. They are trained in survival techniques and sabotage, and must pass incredible feats of resistance.  One of their trials is to wade across an icy river in temperatures below -20 degree C.  They must also survive in sub zero conditions with nothing but minimal survival gear. Sven was able to join this grueling regiment because he attended the Swedish Academy of Sporting Excellence in Stockholm where all the Olympic hopefuls live and train.  Sven excelled at long distance running, cross country skiing, and athletics.  He once won competed in the WasaLoppet, an 80 km skiing marathon, and was the best placed Northerner. Sven has been away from his family since he was 12 when he was sent away for schooling.  He still keeps close contact with them and visits them whenever time allows.
