| Sugar Glider (Petaurus Breviceps)IN THE WILD Sugar Gliders are active at nights and sleep during the day in a nest of leaves in tree hollows.they consume of 7-12 sugar gliders will co-habitat in these nest,some say to help keep themselfs warm by sharing body heat.another way they can conserve heat,when food is scarce or tempertures plummet,is to go into Torpor(Like a mild hibernation-where its body temperature drops down close to the air around them).they are playful amongest their own clan"Group but will fiercely attack any intruderswhether its another Sugar Glider or totally different animal.the dominant male sugar glider will sent other clan members and the territory around them and the nest.sugar gliders feeds on the gum and sap from acacias and eucalyptus as well as eating a range of arboreal insects((insects living off tress)this feeding and foraging takes place after dusk.sugar gliders breeds from july to November so the young are taken care of during the spring and summer when there is plenty of food.being marsupials the young remain in the pouch just over 2months.the pouch is forward facing with 2 teats,and thus often twins are born.after these first 2 months the young are then left for further month or so in the nest.they then leave the nest to forage for food under the guidance of either their father or mother. |
| Captive Sugar Gliders(Petaurus Breviceps)We are doing this subject as our babies grow.here is somethings that are very inportant so please read this and ask questions from us or someone else. do Sugar Gliders make good pets? they make wounderful pocket pet,they adapt very well and readily to captivty and can develope a very strong bond or relationships with their human keepers.they are small in size,are very intelligent and love to play,they are much smarter than a hamster or a rat.some people thinks they are more like cat like in the way play,and their life span is more like a cat or a dog,most living to be 10yrs or older if taken caare of properly.although nocturnal,i found this to be a benefit,in that they want to play in the evening,which is my time to play and enjoy are babies.most Sugar Gliders,if handled well and given time,learn their owners scent and have absolutely no fear of human oe their owners.in fact,they love humans attention.Berry our first Sugar Glider came to us being afraid of humans.Larry and I took our time to get to know him slowly.there is some inportant question that should be asked of the new potiental owner of a Sugar Glider. 1.When was the opp out of pouch 2.what is the baby eating 3.is there any medical issue 4.who are the parents of the baby 5.how often has the baby been held from being opp 7.do you offer any Guarteen if s what and how long 8.when will the baby be ready 9.do you need a deposit to hold the baby until weaned 10.what supplies do you offer What we offer with our babies to be sure they are well tooken care of 1.Food 2.Pouchs 3.Play time before you leave with the baby(s) 4.hr confersasion incase you have questions and we will answer them |
