1. INTRODUCTION

This information package is written for third party DOS and
Microsoft Windows 3.1 developers who intend to develop software
programs for Creative's Video Blaster SE100.

This document provides a set of Easy-to-use low level DOS and
Microsoft Windows 3.1 MCI APIs for Video Blaster SE100. We at
Creative Labs have spent much effort in creating the drivers and
libraries to save your development time.

We have taken great care to meet the requirements of the various
types of developers and to reduce the possibilities of clashes
with other TSRs or Windows system drivers.

2. WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

This manual assumes you are an experienced programmer who is
familiar with using the Video Blaster cards or any of its
derivatives. Therefore, the focus in this document will be on
     technical aspects.

3. BEFORE YOU START

Before you start the installation of this diskette, please
install the Video Blaster SE100 package. The installation
process of the Video Blaster SE100 package will setup various
setting, both DOS and Windows, necessary to run the card.

4. SOFTWARE INSTALLATION

This package assumes that you have successfully installed the
     Video Blaster SE100 package.

     a. Create a directory for the development kit (eg. C:\SE100PI).

     b. Type SE100PI -d C:\SE100PI

     c. Please compare the date/time of the Windows/DOS drivers
installed in your system with the drivers in the DRV
directory. Ensure that the latest date/time drivers are
          used.

5. DIRECTORIES INSTALLED ON YOUR SYSTEM

The directory which you have installed the development kit
     contains the following sub-directories:

     Sub-directory Contents

SAMPLES Sample programs with source code that illustrate
the used of different APIs. For information on
the samples, see SAMPLE APPLICATIONS below.

DOC The complete documentation of the DOS and
Windows MCI API in Postscript format and Adobe
Acrobat PDF (Portable Document Format) files.

     DRV Latest VBSE100 drivers.

6. DOCUMENTATION

Programming documentation for the Video Blaster SE100 is provided
in two Postscript files and two Adobe Acrobat PDF files. The
SE100DOS.PS/PDF describes the DOS API and file SE100MCI.PS/PDF
describes the Microsoft Windows MCI API.

** Adobe Acrobat PDF files can be read using Adobe Acrobat Reader
which is available freely from http://www.adobe.com

7. SAMPLE APPLICATIONS

The kit includes the following programming samples:

     Sample Description

STARTUP.EXE This is a skeleton program that illustrate how to
display a live video . It demontrates how to use
the API functions provided by SE100DRV resident
driver. It also shows the method used to check for
the existence of SE100DRV and how to call the
                    driver.

CLRKEY.EXE This DOS program demonstrates how to use colorkey
as a mean to display live video at desirable
                    locations on the screen.

MOVEWIN.EXE The DOS program demonstrates how to move a video
window around 4 positions on screen, i.e.
                    top-left, top-right, bottom-right and bottom-left.
The video output also be scaled.

MULTIWIN.EXE This program demonstrates how to create multi-
window effect with 1 live video while others are
frozen. In this example, 4 windows are created
with the bottom-right window initially has a live
                    video.

PANZOOM.EXE This DOS program demonstrates how to achieve
                    panning and zooming effects.

     SAVEFILE.EXE This DOS program demonstrates read/write from/to
framebuffer. The live video can be freezed and
then the brightness can be increased or decreased
by changing the content of the framebuffer. The
modify image can be saved into a TARGA24 format
                    image file.

MCISTART.EXE This is a general Windows program that
demonstrates how to setup the MCI device.

MCICKEY.EXE This Windows program demonstrates how to control
color key and the overlay effect for different
                    color key.

MCICTRL.EXE This program demonstrates how to control video
                    display by using MCI commands.

MCIIMAGE.EXE This Windows program demonstrates how to save/load
image by using MCI commands. It also shows how to
                    copy/paste image using clipboard.

MCIPAN.EXE This program demonstrates how to control video
display by using MCI commands. Functions such as
                    Zooming, Panning, Freezing/Unfreezing are provided.

MCIMWIN.EXE This program displays multiple windows at the same
time. Panning and zooming features of the card are
                    used.

In order to assist us in attending to your problems, we would
like you to go through this checklist and have the following
information at hand when you contact us.

     1. Run the VBSE100 DOS User Test Program, SE100TST.EXE, to
check that the VBSE100 card is working, and compare the I/O
address with those used in your program.

     2. Make sure you have read the documentation and the examples
thoroughly. It is also important to try out the example
programs and see if they run on your system.

     3. If your program does not run or cannot activate the VBSE100,
unload all other resident programs and remember to load the
required VBSE100 resident driver (if programming in DOS) in
          the system.

     4. Try to isolate the source of the problems and identify which
part of your program, module or function that is causing the
problem. You can do this by using the debugger for your
          development environment.

     5. Supply us with the following information :

          *    your name and/or company.

          * your system configuration including add-on cards such
as scanner, LAN, display, communication, etc.

          * your development environment including names and
versions of DOS, compiler, linker, software debugger
               and hardware debugger.

          * list of resident programs loaded in your system.

          * a clear description and copy of the code that causes
the problem, and what you think is the probable cause.
If your program is very large, please try to reduce its
size to the smallest possible program that still
               produces the problem.

          * details of steps needed to reproduce the problem.

          * daytime phone number where you can be contacted.
