Service - Electrostatic Loudspeaker

Removing the grill

  • Undo the tapes from holding the top and bottom of the grilles that prevent rattles. Once they are removed, it is possible to prise the front and back grilles from their retaining slots in the side extrusion.
  • Cautious :- When handling the grilles, take care not to distort the edges beyond repair.

Removing the dust cover

  • Iinsert a screwdriver at either of the top corners and gently lift a corner free. The dust cover is fitted to a clip-on frame
  • The screwdriver is then slid down between dust cover and side frame. This should repeated in each of the other three corners after the dust cover can then be withdrawn.
  • Cautious :- The dust cover is fragile. Avoid being damaged by solder splashes or wire cuttings.

Removing the element

  • With both dust covers removed, unsolder the electrical connectors to the element and remove the four fixing screws.
  • For removal of the top element and the two lower elements, additional steps are needed to be taken.
    • For the top element, remove the eight screws on the top plate.
    • For the lower middle element, the delay line leads will have to be unclipped from the louvre. Take note of their sequence.
    • For the bottom element, the lower middle element must first be removed. The bottom element will then need to be lifted about 15 mm to clear the base.
  • Cautious :- Do not overheat the clips as they may become unsoldered from the electrode.
  • Note :- For early loudspeakers, the clips had a tag to which the soldered connection was made. For late production, there is no tag and a wire link is soldered direct to the body of the clip.
