|| Chapter 13 - Confrontation ||
Legolas had slept but not for long hours but only for a short while. He had been dying inside; loneliness crept and took over his whole body, mind, soul, spirit and heart of what he had heard about Vanya Aranel. The revelation about the truth would cause bigger challenge and hindrance from being with her. Legolas looked at the ceiling and saw that it was painted and drawn with images of different elves. He closed his eyes trying to resume his slumber, when a picture of Vanya Aranel flashed before him, her face so beautiful but a sober look could be found. He shook his head and struggled to open his eyes that had been filled with tears.
Until now he couldn't accept what his fate has been drawing him to follow. When he never expect himself to love, it had come his way, but lost it due to many factors. His relationship with his father had not shown any progress even if he had obeyed and agreed to what he wants him to do. He will be marrying the girl he never even treated as a sister or as a dear friend.
Legolas stood up and peered at the small window in his chamber. The part of Rivendell visible at the window had been very bright with large bulbs to lighten up the place. He went near the table and rummaged his pack and took a ring, the ring that he had given before to Vanya Aranel, their heirloom. He carefully slid the ring in his pocket and patted it, ensuring that he had placed the ring in the right place.
He looked around the room, where he had been hallucinating of hearing a voice, singing, which stopped him from his thoughts. He placed both of his hands on his ears and shook his head. No, it can't be, the thought in his mind, that a maiden was singing a very melancholic song. He removed his hands from his ears, but still he could hear a voice so beautiful, and then a soft pluck of the harp.
'Vanya Aranel!' he silently exclaimed to himself. He almost jumped from his place. He grabbed his elven-cloak and hurriedly went out of his room. He did not mind the narrow dim hallway and the long spiral stairs. He followed where the voice is coming. When he finally reached the ground level of the house, the singing stopped. Breathing rapidly, he walked quietly and looking around, hoping to see Vanya Aranel. He still walked, even without the guarantee of finding his princess. He walked and walked, but still no Vanya Aranel to be found.
At last, he lost hope and decided to go back to his room, frustration and despair in his heart. He passed on to the garden, when he heard someone sobbing just near him. Curious of whom it was, he searched where the silently cries is coming from. He peered through the thickness of the vines, and astonished when he found out who was crying and sitting on a secluded bench, which were surrounded by different flowers. His Vanya Aranel, holding her harp and looking at the flowers while crying silently. Her beautiful face was tear-streaked and pink. Her beautiful eyes were sore and red and her small lips were rosy. Legolas couldn't control the urge inside him, and revealed himself to his beloved.

Vanya Aranel was flabbergasted, that the last person she was expecting to see was now right before her and approaching her. She couldn't hide her tears and couldn't pretend that she is not crying. She hurriedly wiped her tears and turned her eyes away from Legolas.
"Why are you here, my lady, in the middle of the night?" he asked in a soft tone. Vanya Aranel did not meet his eyes.
"And what is your concern of minding what is it that I'm doing here? I wanted to be alone." She plainly answered. Legolas' heart was pierced and hurt with the way his beloved his speaking to him. Legolas sat down by her side without her permission and reached for chin and made him face her.
"I am concerned about you still, Vanya Aranel. I am sorry for what I did to you, the first time I entered Imladris. I never wanted to do that" Legolas' voice trailed off.
"But you have done it already." Vanya Aranel looked intently at Legolas' eyes. He had been so transparent, that his feelings for her is shown through them.
"I was so happy to see you, right there, but I got jealous when I saw you with Elladan, so happy and you were holding his hand. You never knew how much it hurt me, Vanya Aranel." he explained, pain was obvious in his voice.
Vanya Aranel still loves this man no matter what, and even she tried to be hard with him she couldn't stand to see Legolas being pained and hurt. Her love for him is stronger than anything. She couldn't control herself any longer, tears started to flow off her eyes.
"Why did you come back, Legolas? Why did you make me see you now? I left Lothlorien to start my life, here in Imladris, but you revealed yourself to me again!" she wailed in distress.
Legolas was in pain seeing Vanya Aranel crying. He embraced her so tight as if he didn't want to let go. It felt good to embrace her again, just like the days were they were so inlove and still together.
"Oh Vanya Aranel, don't cry." He pleaded as he stroked her hair. He couldn't help it, but he was not even aware that tears were falling from his eyes. He let go of Vanya Aranel and cupped her face into his hands. "I never meant to reveal myself to you, Vanya Aranel, but I wanted to see you. It kills me inside not to see you, or hold you or be with you." Legolas explained misery in his eyes. Vanya Aranel placed her thumb on Legolas' lips.
"I wanted to see you too, in my heart, but in my mind, I was convinced that it was not good to see you again. I am not the only one being miserable here, Legolas, you had been too and I know it. I am very sorry for deciding for the both of us, but it will be a very good idea to let go. We love each other so much, maybe more than our own lives, but we know it was not meant to be. We have to live our lives, as it was destined for us to follow. I never wanted it, neither you do, but this is life, and it works and happen in mystery, wherein many of the things that would be apt for you to do or to follow, had never been your will." Vanya Aranel explained tears flowing in her eyes.
"Vanya Aranel, I understand, but we can change the course. We are doing our own destiny and we could change it, and play with it, for we are the characters in the tale, that is our life." Legolas hopefully suggested.
"Legolas, were not only the characters, we are just one of the many. And the tale is not of the decision of the character, but the script and those who made it." Vanya Aranel explained further.
They grew silent. Legolas let go of Vanya Aranel's face and remained seated quietly on the bench, while Vanya Aranel stared at the flowers, sadness on her face.
"I knew of the truth Vanya Aranel." he spoke, breaking off the silence. Vanya Aranel looked at him. "An heir of Sauron, the daughter of Taurinatari, the granddaughter of Lasroquen and the legitimate heir to the throne of Fnayulmnan." He revealed. Vanya Aranel's eyes grew wide and on her face, astonishment was visible. "Yes, I know who you are, Vanya Aranel. But it will never keep me from loving you and taking you off with me." He replied soberly.
"You know of who I am, Legolas, you must know now that we are not to be together. Your father will disapprove of me, together with your kin. Sauron had bring darkness to Mirkwood and settled at Dol Guldur. They will never approve that the future lady of the future king, the wife of the next destined king, is the daughter and the heir of the one who destroyed their home, brought darkness to their place and kin and most of all the one who will destroy the Middle-Earth." In her voice was disgust.
"I do not care, Vanya Aranel. You are not evil as of your father. War is nearing, and you should know that. Lord Elrond plans to take you away, with Arwen, to the undying lands, when the war will be instigating." Legolas informed her. Vanya Aranel looked up at Legolas.
"I will go with Arwen, Legolas, for that is my destiny. Sauron will locate me and will never stop until he reclaims me." Vanya Aranel replied.
"After the war, when we succeed, Vanya Aranel, I will marry you. No one can stop me from doing it so." Legolas said.
"I could stop you, Legolas." She replied sternly. She noticed that Legolas' face became gloom and her heart ached. "Legolas, you have to understand, we are not destined to be together. Let me start my life, and you could start yours. I am begging you, let the both of us go." She calmly pleaded.
"They will understand, you are the queen of Fnayulmnan and the one whom I want to be the future lady of Mirkwood. I will make them understand." Legolas pushed more of his ideas.
"Legolas, eventhough it hurts me, I wanted you out of my life. Do not just think of our welfare, but think of the others. That is a favor that I am asking you, for my peace of mind." Vanya Aranel pleaded.
Legolas harshly stood up, couldn't understand Vanya Aranel's reasons. She wanted him out of her life, and it hurt him so much, hearing that escape the lips of his beloved, the person he loves more, even more than his life. Her words are like arrows darted to his heart. He glared at her.
"If that is what you want, I will. I would leave Imladris by morning and I will avoid seeing you and revealing myself to you. You will never hear anything from me, I'm telling you. You could go on with your life and perhaps, marry Elladan. You two are meant for each other, as what I could see." He replied with coldness in his voice, obvious in fury.
Vanya Aranel was shocked. She did not know that Legolas would misinterpret her for telling him to get out of her life. "No, Legolas, you don't understand. We could still be friends, but give us time to be parted to each other" Vanya Aranel pleaded but she was cut off by Legolas' harsh words.
"I understand, Vanya Aranel, there is no need to explain further. Farewell, and may you have a good life ahead of you." Legolas retorted. He placed his hand inside his pocket and revealed the ring that he had given to Vanya Aranel before and placed it on the bench and turned away from Vanya Aranel, walked hastily until he vanished from her sight.
Vanya Aranel was left sitting alone and cried hard more. She picked up the ring that was hers before, the heirloom of Legolas' family, which he had given to her when he asked her to marry him. She stared at the ring and clasped it in her hands. She wished things were different, that things would be easy for them, and that she could be with Legolas and they could marry each other. But everything were just a wish, and now Legolas despises her. He misunderstood her.
