The QP Sevens

As we were challenged by Motherwell to a seven a side game it was decided to play a small tournament and ended up with four teams; Motherwell, Coasters (Oban), QP (Blue tops) and QP (Black & White tops).

The tournament was at Holyrood Sports Centre and each team would play each other over the full sized pitch in a fifteen minute game.

Torrential rain the day before and in the morning looked like it would put a damper on things but incredibly the two hours we booked were reasonably dry.

Our two teams were:
Blue - Raymond McCulloch, John Crosbie, Stephen Stormonth, Paul Stormonth, Colin Shepherd, Gordon Swinburne, Ross MacDougall and Iain Campbell.

Black & White - David Ferguson, Logan Taylor, David Nisbet, Russell Greig, John Kirkland, Arthur McCue, Alistair Dorward and Allan MacKenzie.

The opening game saw Motherwell defeat the Black & White team 2-0 and gain a bonus point for winning by more than one goal.

Coasters were held up in traffic but made it in time to draw 0-0 with our Blue team who should have won after squandering a host of chances.

The Blue team stayed on and played Motherwell defeating them 2-0 with goals from Jazza and Mister Campbell. Yes, you read that right, Mister Campbell scored the all important second and what a goal it was as he chipped the ball over the keeper from the edge of the box and into the top corner. Modest as ever he wont talk about it !

Coasters were next on and easily beat our Black & White team 4-0 with Mugsi MacGregor helping himself to two of the goals.

The all QP clash then took place and it was the Blues who ran out 1-0 winners thanks to a goal from Ross MacDougall. This also meant that temporary keeper Raymie McCulloch never lost a goal for the Blues and he made it four shut outs in a row as he was in goals for Motherwell in their first game as well. Wonder if he fancys going in on a Sunday ?

The Blues had set themselves up for a tournament win but it depended on how Motherwell did against Coasters, they didn't do well, Coasters coasting it 4-0 with the opening goal coming from John "Scotty" Scott.

So the final placings were:-
1) Coasters 9 points
2) QP (Blue) 8 points
3) Motherwell 4 points
4) QP (Black & White) 0 points

Back to the International Bar for the presentation of the trophy to Mugsi of Coasters and the Oban boys then hijacked three of the QP "lads" and dragged them to the West End as we moved on from the South Side.

A good day was had by all and I'm sure we'll have more of these days in the future. After all it's always enjoyable to see such quality goals being scored !!
