The Duror Sevens at Duror

If it's Sunday it must be Duror !!!

It was a weary, and hungover, squad who made their way through the hills of Glencoe to the picturesque village of Duror for the local village football tournament.

Thinking it was six a side we only took the bare minimum and our squad was:- Iain Campbell, Scott Bell, John Kirkland, Paul Stormonth, Arthur McCue and Barry Cook.

The locals, keeping the rules to themselves, had made it seven a side so occasionally one of our ex-players and local favourite Rab "Geordie Munro" MacDonald filled in for us.

The opposition were mainly teams drawn from the local pubs and hotels and our first game was against The Ferry Bar from Ballachulish Hotel.

For no reason at all Mister Campbell went in goals and that would explain why we lost 5-0.

Big John took over in goals for the next game, against the local Duror side, and he did better only losing one goal, the winning one.

Desperate measures were called for so we went and got a carry out and suddenly we were playing like a team possessed.

Barry, on his birthday, was in goals for our third game, against The Loch Leven Hotel, and we only lost 3-2 with Big John notching our two goals.

We were straight on to our next game, against Big Rab's Appin side, and we finally broke our duck winning 1-0 thanks a goal from Jazza. We also used our winding up tactics to good effect and also the tactic of "try and get the ball on the road".

Amazingly we qualified for the fifth/sixth play off and came up against the Grotto Bar, Glencoe Hotel. One up through Big John we lost an equaliser to send the game into a penalty shoot out.

Only one of our kicks was missed, by Jazza, and we ran out 5-3 winners with Barry saving two of the locals efforts. Mister Campbell, Big John, Scotty, Arfur and Rab all scored for us.

A long journey home was broken up by a stop at the world famous Drovers Inn, a place where Arfur, drunk of the day due to the fact that it was the furthest he'd ever been from home, probably doesn't remember being.

Thanks to Ally and Ian from Duror for inviting us and organsing such a fine ten team tournament.

We certainly enjoyed the whole day.
