We were invited to Hamilton for the first Cooper Cup a seven a side event organised by Motherwell Supporters (and Big Jaffa in particular).
There were nine teams taking part split into three groups of three and we were drawn against the Motherwell Dossers (the organising team) and The Shack (a local pub).
Our squad was as follows:- David Ferguson, Barry Cook, Neil Skinner, George Skinner, Ally Dick, Scott Bell, John Kirkland and Iain Campbell.
In our first game, against the Dossers, we drew 0-0 and, as this game was also for the Crooked Cup (a competition between QP and Motherwell), the game went to penalties.
We ran out 4-3 winners thanks to goals by the Skinner brothers, Ally and Scott. No thanks to Barry and Big John who both missed the target.
Our next game was against The Shack and we cruised through that one 3-0 with goals from Geordie Skinner and Big John.
The three group winners then played off against each other to decide the winners of the Cooper Cup and we were up against two other Motherwell sides, Orbiston and One Step Beyond.
In the first game we lost 2-0 then drew our last game 1-1 (goal by Big John) to finish runner up to the Motherwell side who included the Motherwell FC kit man in their side.
Back to The Shack in Hamilton for the presentations and the massive Crooked Cup was presented to our good selves with Scotty taking the cup home as he has a reinforced mantle piece.
A good day was had by all and thanks are due to Jaffa and the "Dossers" for organising the tournament.
Of course, the day was also good as Scotland beat Iceland 2-0, a game we watched in The Shack before taking our leave for dear old Glasgow town.
Unfortunately once back in the town there are unconfirmed reports of some drunken behaviour by three of the team (no names but two of them are related (not the Skinners) and one's English) who were seen to be over celebrating England's win over Slovakia by rolling about the floor in a pub in Byres Road. Enquiries are continuing.
