September 2005 Quilchena PAC Meeting
1. Opening Remarks
Barbara G., PAC Chair, called the meeting to order at approximately 7:10 p.m.
2. Agenda and Minutes
The Agenda was distributed at the meeting. A copy of the agenda is attached to these Minutes in Appendix 1.
MOTION: To adopt the September Agenda and Minutes from the April 2005- last PAC meeting for 2004/05 school year.

Barb introduced 4 prime focus issues that the PAC would like to deal with this year as being
1- Advocacy regarding the school board elections
2- Health and Safety within our school
3- Boosting School Spirit
4- Adding Value to our school
3. Principles Report
Mrs Val
Coopersmith provided the stats on
· Total Student -383
· French- 176 no new classes
· English- 207 full classes – cannot accept any new students
· French Kindergarten wait list - 15 students- may be opening new classes for grade 1 &2 in the district
· Same number of teachers - change in some part time to full time ratio
· 3 job share teacher

Library is now open 4 days per
week Monday – Thursday,
· 97 ESL students- same number of resource teachers
· School Patrol will be managed by M. Millet and Mrs Bailey
Monthly Assemblies will be held with 2 classrooms teaming up to provide French and English input. (Remembrance Day, Sportsmanship, Chinese New Year, Friendship, Terry Fox Day)
Mrs Coopersmith has received positive feed back from many parents on the successful format for collecting the School fees with just one cheque.
The students rose over $3,800 for the Annual Terry Fox run this year.
4. Teacher’s Report- M. Sans (Senior Teacher)
M. Sans reports that he will be involved in the Grade 7 Leadership program to help promote responsible and leadership skill.
The Grade 7’s will be required to strive towards a set number of volunteer hours. Some of the activities they can be involved in are scorekeeping, math problem solvers, library assistance, traffic patrol, PA crew for assemblies, teacher assistants, help with Bingo nights or the Book fair.
Take Card Cards will be issued again this year to reward any student in the school for exemplary behaviour. Awards will be presented at assemblies every other month.
5. Canadian Parents for French- Lisa N.
Lisa N. will be taking over the role of CPF for Quilchena school from Lesley W. this year. Thanks you very much to Lesley who has devoted many years and personal hour in this role.
Canadian Parents for French is a support organization for Parents of French Emersion student. Each school elects a parent representative to this council act on their behalf . The CPF provides support through a number of means such as Internet site, regular meeting, resources, books and magazines and cultural event updates.
Lisa will be provide regular updates at PAC meeting and in the school newsletters.
6. Treasures Report – Jean A.
Jean A., PAC Treasurer, announced that the PAC has $17,309 remaining in funds from the 2004/05 AQA. $7,350 has been set aside for the 2005-2006 PAC ’basic budget’ as well as $6,300 for outstanding cheques and preauthorized liabilities. Unallocated BC Government Grants equal $13, 890 which leave and estimated 2004/05 Surplus of $3,419.83

7. Fundraising- Heather K.
Due to short time Heather quickly review the strategy is in place to start the Annual Quilchena Appeal as soon as the Teachers job action has been resolved. Notices have gone out to the parents with explanations on how the appeal is run and what the funds are used for. Future discussions will need to be held to decide on how this years raised fund are to be allocated. Heather stated that there was a poor response to the parent’s survey regarding the fund allocation. Detail’s of the results are attached in Appendix 3. Further notices will be sent out separately in hopes that more people will respond.
8. Class Parent
Shareen d. will continue to make sure that all classes have elected a class parent and make sure they understand the definition and role they play. She has put together a class package which will help them in their role
9. Other Business
Volunteers are still required for the following PAC functions
