COMPUTER RULES
-students to save their data files to their own diskettes and not the
hard drive
as
- saves space on the hard drive for software programs
- provides some protection if computer system ‘crashes’ and data
lost on hard drive (ideally students should make a second back-up
diskette copy of their
diskettes)
- for primary students, concept of saving a file to a diskette
separate from the computer is a good one to learn. It may help
their
understanding later of saving a file to a folder on a hard drive.
Folders on a hard drive might be a more difficult concept for
primary students. A folder with their name might help.
-especially for primary students, individual diskettes are a
simple way
to organize data so it can be easily retrieved. On a hard drive
care must be
taken to use unique filenames or folders.
-the grade 3 F.I. 96/7 class had only one student’s diskette go ‘bad’ during the year
-the students’s work on a diskette can be taken with the student
to the next grade/teacher
