- switching schools Primary to Intermediate will create 'dropouts' from program and may deter families from entering the system
- Imagine this, a family having to juggle some or all of daycare drop off, pre-school drop off, Primary drop-off, Intermediate drop-off and High School drop-off
- 2 different before or after school care, separating siblings
-divided parent commitment for PAC, volunteering, fundraising, reading program, computers, etc.
- affordability, viability of cultural events and performances
- extra-curricular activities K-7 ie: track, running club
- the primary for FI families is not the same as a close small annex in the English system. FI families are driving a distance for primary
- in the last seven
years at Quilchena the FI Stream Families and English Stream Families that
make up the PAC have raised over $200,000 to support activities and buy
equipment for Quilchena. Moving Intermediate FI students to Trafalgar means
they lose the benefits from this PAC supplied equipment. This includes
over $99,000 for computer equipment. Thanks to the PAC there is a relatively
newer computer with colour printer in each classroom and sufficient newer
computers for a school computer lab. Thanks to the PAC the Internet is
already in many classrooms and soon will be in all classrooms. Also thanks
to the PAC the computer lab has an overhead projector, scanner, digital
camera and colour laser printer. Since equipping the computer lab Quilchena
has a resident part time Information Technology teacher. Quilchena also
has 3 robotics kits. If the Intermediate FI students had to move to Trafalgar
they would lose this benefit. If they were to try and take their share
of equipment with them, it would be to the detriment of Quilchena's lab,
they would have less than at Quilchena and the IT teacher could probably
not be divided in such a manner.
