Mashimaro: the story of the twisted rabbit...
Aptly named because visually, it resembles a marshmallow.
The rabbit has been depicted in 8 flash animation episodes named: Birth, Fishing, Picnic, Moon, Melancholy, Present, Action, Battle...these can be found in various links but I have included the one below
Other characters in the mashimaro series: Boogaloo and Booma (bears), Piyoz (pig), Noonoo (dog), Mero (lamb), Pista and Pistachi (Monkeys)
birth year:1999
birth place: Korea
producer: Kim Jae In and Jang Mi-yeong

The inspiration for choosing Kim and Jang's creation as my image maker came from watching an entertainment news program where some Asian celebrities (can't even remember who it was) were promoting the Mashimaro range. It suddenly struck me how these creations like Mashimaro and Hello Kitty seem to be able to transcend cultures and find themselves objects of export.

Originally rejected as a character educational purposes, the creators of Mashimaro turned to flash animation instead, and completely twisted the character around.

The use of simple lines and dots to depict the expressions of each of the characters is something that stands out amidst the powers of animation. The suggestion here is that to capture the viewer's attention, the basic shapes and elements of visual communication are as important as the effects that the wonders of technology have brought about.

I also particularly like the illusion, especially that of the "Action" episode, where Mashimaro hides himself and uses his butt to disguise as a dog. Is seeing really believing? The figure-ground relationship is employed almost to perfection here as Piyoz the pig cop, is completely fooled.
