Rain, Rain, and More Rain
By The Gazette Online Reporter James
-April 13, 2004
The Gazette Online weather team has been watching today's storm all day and now we have an update. The Gazette Online's JB reports: At 6 o'clock the rain continues to fall and the wind continues to blow here at the studios of QuickNews and The Gazette Online. All day it has been knocking out traffic lights and knocking branches off of trees. As you can see in the picture taken by The Gazette Online, a branch has fallen onto our driveway and our flag has been wiped around the flag pole several times. Even our Easter decorations are on there way to the ground (see picuture A). But the rain and wind have caused bigger problems then these little ones at our studios. WALK Radio has reported that the wind has knocked out the traffic light at Route 347 and Route 111, a major intersection here on the island. We advise you to avoid this area if possible. We assume that police are now on the seen. The rain is causing some problems of its own. Many roads are now blocked because of rain water and failed drainage systems. On one of our several trips through town today, we saw several town of Smithtown crews trying to remove water off of Meadow Road and also on Nicholas Road. Although our team was not able to get a clear picture of water on the road because of the extreme weather condition, we were able to receive this picture (see picture B). This picture (once again just outside our studios) shows some puddles forming on our lawn. What's that you sick of the rain already? Well us too, but were sorry to report that there is not going to be a day without rain until possibly Friday. (Forecast below) Oh and by the way, with no sign of the end of the rain for a day or two, you might want to keep an eye on your pool covers!
