New York Yankees-26 time World Series Champions
This page is dedicated to the greatest franchise in the history of professional sports-the New York Yankees!
This is the calliope outside Yankee stadium on the pedestrian plaza. It's actually a very calming influence as people anxiously wait for their friends at the baseball bat. It also plays some pretty cool tunes as well.
This was Joe DiMaggio's last public appearance-the last regular season game of 1998. Sadly, the Yankee Clipper would die a few months later. I later read in Richard Ben Cramer's book that this whole day was put together at the last minute-look how the "M" in DiMaggio's name was not capitalized on the scoreboard. Also, the microphone did not work and DiMaggio was not able to give his speech. DiMaggio was sick and dying, yet he was determined to be at the Stadium. I never saw DiMaggio play in my life. However, from reading Cramer's book, I saw another view of DiMaggio as a greedy, selfish, arrogant jerk who beat Marilyn Monroe and had friends in the mafia. I respect what he did for the Yankees or for baseball, but perhaps he is not the great man popular culture makes him out to be.
A big thanks to Pat Olivieri for taking me to the World Series for free and letting me get these awesome pictures! Thanks!!!
Above is a picture of the first pitch of the 2000 World Series. To the left is a sign made by a really cool kid. The sign says "This is your brain on drugs." with a Mets logo on it. The picture below is the grounds crew doing YMCA(like they always do).
To the right is a shot of the stands at Yankee Stadium. It's so rare to see them this full, but of course this was the World Series! Below and to the right is my actual ticket stub from the game. Directly below is a picture of the team going wild after Jose Vicaino's game-winning single at 1AM in the bottom of the 12th! Click here to return to my homepage.
To the left is Cal Ripken in his last series at Yankee Stadium. Notice also that the NY behind home plate is in patriotic red, white, and blue in memory of the victims of the September 11 tragedy and in support for our country..
