The UCONN Years
some pictures from my fun times in Storrs, CT
Even though my time as a full-time UCONN student was only 2 years, I really enjoyed them, especially the second year. I was much more social at UCONN than I was at Cornell. It was too bad that I was leaving just as I felt socially established! Of course, I still went back for basketball games and other events, so I guess I never really left UCONN even though I graduated in 1999.
To the left is a picture from the 1999 choir banquet(I'm on the far left). This was a little party we had after performing the Brahms Requiem(the program is below). It was kind of cool to have a nice dinner, drinks, and dancing after the concert.

Of course, that was pretty tame compared to the party that Jack Pott threw at his house a few weeks later! Jack Pott was my voice teacher, one of the choir grad assistants,  and he is a really, really, really cool guy! I remember many of us drinking massive quantities of potent punch. I remember us being really drunk, dancing, and blowing soap bubbles at Jack's house. A picture of Jack is below and to the left-he's grilling burgers and dogs at the choir opening of the year barbecue. Jack, thanks for teaching me not to stick out my head when I sing! Jack is also an awesome piano player!
To the left is Mirror Lake, one of the many pretty features of the rural UCONN campus. To the lower left is the Homer Babbidge library after extensive construction. Finally, the library no longer resembles a Borg cube! The library itself is beautiful. The plaza outside the library was redone so that the UCONN seal would be visible from the air.

Yes, UCONN gets made fun of for being in the middle of nowhere, but the students make their own fun. The social scene at UCONN is fine-ask anyone who goes there!
The bonfire scene above is from the mad celebration that gripped the entire campus in 1999 when we shocked the world as UCONN did what nobody thought was possible-we beat Duke 77-74 to win the 1999 mens' basketball national championship! The campus was just unbelievably elated, everyone was drinking, dancing, and partying all night long! This was one of the most fun days I've ever had in my life. It was a great graduation present and a great way to remember UCONN(little did I know at the time that I would be in Philly the following year experiencing euphoria again seeing the UCONN women win it all!) I took this picture running around the bonfire. Many lecture halls were nearly empty the next morning and many professor delayed tests and papers just because of the championship. Just for the record, I only missed one class(8AM Psychology) the next morning and went to my 9:30AM class and all the rest of my classes that day.
Finally, here are pictures from my UCONN graduation. The picture above is me wearing a Masters gown, cap, and tassel. The picture to the left was taken from the stands at graduation. The speaker, Noam Chomsky, is apparently a hotshot MIT professor. He was also incredibly dull-I just couldn't wait for him to finish. When he finished, I clapped because I didn't have to listen to him anymore, not because he was so brilliant. He gave a linguistics lecture for his commencement address! Who the Hell wants to hear another boring lecture at graduation? We get enough of those in college already!!!
