The Cornell Years-My Time High Above Cayuga's Waters
The Cornell campus is well known for its natural beauty. It's almost like going to school in a national park! I guess being in the middle of nowhere has some advantages.

Anyway, to the left is a view off the suspension bridge. They say "Ithaca is gorges" and this is one of the most gorge-ous on campus. Unfortuantely, it is also known as the "suicide bridge."

To the left is a view of Beebe lake. I passed this bridge many times going to class.

Below is a view of Cornell Plantations, a botanical garden right on campus!
All of these pictures are from Slope Day-the last day of classes. Basically, the entire campus gathers on Libe Slope and gets drunk as one last big party before the impending doom of final exams. Above is a picture of the slope and the mass of Cornell students gathered. To the left is a picture of me with Ezra Cornell and a 40oz bottle of Old English Malt  Liquor. To the right is a picture of my friend Paul with that same bottle. Paul was my neighbor in Dickson Hall for 2 years. He is now a grad student at UNC(I have a link to his webpage). Paul is a way cool guy who's really good with computers, except he was never able to get Netscape to work properly in my dorm room! It was also on Slope Day that Paul and I discovered a new mixed drink-Malt Liquor and Sunny Delight mixed 50:50. It tasted really bad at first, but after a while, it started to taste really good. I guess it was an acquired taste!
To the left is a picture of a retreat at Our Savior Monastery I went on with the Cornell Catholic Fellowship. I became Catholic at Cornell, so this community was my first parish.

I enjoyed both visits to the monastery that year. I went to a few of the prayers with the monks(not the 4:30AM one though!) I thought that I could be like St. Francis of Assissi and be one with the animals. I attempted two times, both unsuccessfully, to have a mystic experience with sheep. I thought that since Jesus is the good shepherd, the sheep would give me a mystic experience. I stared at the sheep for hours and prayed, but couldn't. I finally came to the realization that sheep are fluffy white things that don't do anything.
Above is a picture of the Cornell University Chorale warming up on April 17, 1997, the date of my last performance with this group. I sang with this group for 4 years and I loved the music and the beautiful chapel every year I was there. I really miss this group. That night was the only time in my life I cried during a concert being overcome with emotion. I have more momentos of the chorale on my choir webpages(return to my homepage for the link).

To the left is a picture of me outside Baker Lab(chemistry building) on Graduation Day 1997. I guess I have a serious scholarly pose there.
