Moreton Island
Moreton Island is ruined by all the 4WD traffic. Nevertheless, the Telegraph Track, Mt Tempest,
Blue Lagoon, Lake Jabiru, and Cape Moreton make the trip over worthy of a visit. Better done outside of Christmas or Easter holidays.
Honeymoon Bay
Honeymoon Bay is a very nice secluded little bay which in 2008 featured in the media as a site where a tour group member drowned. I have swam here myself and it doesn't seem treacherous but I will be more careful now. The most interesting access is by walking along the beach at North Point then up to the old light beacon and down the other side to the bay.
Lake Jabiru
Lake Jabiru has some lovely Melaleuca trees on it's west most shores. It is a very scenic lake and special place but not easy (at least in my experience) to get to. From North Point there are swamps to negotiate. From Yellow Patch there is at least 1 km of wallum scrub to push through and from Spitfire creek it can be a bit of a push through scrub as well. But it is worth the trip. One day I am coming back here to camp a week.
Blue Lagoon
An intersting but short trip is to wade the lagoon from the tourist access point anticlockwise. A forestry track can be folowed from the other side of the lagoon next to a smaller lake. When the 4WD track is met it isn't far to honey eater lake. Good area.
Big Sand Hills
Another detour to get away from 4WD traffic but don't do this in summer as it gets sizzling hot in the middle of the day. These are great adventure to use to cross the island and make a walk of the island more interesting.
Mt Tempest
This and the telegraph track make a very interesting walk. Mt Tempest is high enough to get a panorama of the entire island.
