Area Meeting
In 1956 Australia had three Districts - 13, 24 and 26, and it seemed only natural that all the Clubs should get together and so the First Combined Australian Conference was held in Grafton in 1956. This was also the occasion for a second visit by an International President, then Dr May Valencik.

International President May Valencik conducted the first Seminar of District Officers, (now known as Governors Seminar) and a training session for Club Presidents.

The Combined Australian Conferences continued to be held every three years, and subsequently became known as the "Combined Meeting of the South Pacific Area Quota Clubs" after New Zealand and Fiji joined Quota.

The Eleventh and last Combined Conference was held in Brisbane in 1986. The Clubs of the three countries now meet every two years at the "
South Pacific Area Meeting".

Area Meetings take place around the world in September / October / November as a result of the calendar changes adopted by members and introduced in 2003.

Any District or country in the South Pacific Area may apply to the Area Director to host a meeting of the Area. A host district is then appointed and is responsible for the appointment of an organising committee.

This Committee makes all the organisational arrangements for the meeting while the Area Director arranges the program. A minute secretary serves at the meeting as does a parliamentarian to assist with meeting procedure. When a Meeting is held outside Australia, all financial transactions are in the currency of the host country making it easier for attendees.

A Rules and Resolutions Committee is appointed by the Area Director. This committee of three members from clubs in close proximity to each other (within reasonable travelling distance) meet to discuss the Area's Rules and to receive and suggest any necessary changes or amendments to the Rules. Any proposed amendments are notified to all clubs prior to Area Meeting and then discussed and voted on at Meeting

The 2009 Area Meeting will be hosted by District 43 in Geelong October 30-November 1 2009.
This next meeting is particularly important to attend as results of the SPAM task force will be in and new rules discussed. So spring into Quota in Geelong enjoy the local sites and then join us at the Melbourne Cup!
