Chinese New Year
12 February 2002 is the first day of the new lunar year. This year will be the year of the Horse, the year in which I was born. There are all kinds of interesting superstitions and traditions associated with the Lunar New Year. You should clean your house from top to bottom so that all the new things you will have the good fortune to receive in the coming year will find a place in your home. You should buy new clothes for the New Year, preferably something with red, the colour of good luck. Old Year's Eve is spent making food offerings to the gods and ancestors and there are a lot of fireworks.
New Year's Eve and New Year's Day is very quite by comparison. It is spent with the husband's family, eating, sleeping and playing games. The day after New Year is for the family to visit the wife's parents.
So, how did I spend my New Year ... On Old Year's Eve I was invited to have dinner at Jia Hui's house! Yes, her mother was there as well. She was even pleasant! I was invited again two nights later.
