The Farewells

Another very unTaiwanese feature of our wedding was our wedding cake. We really struggled to find someone who could make a real wedding cake and finally googled Nancy in Taipei who made the cake and 220 smaller cakes for our cakes in 5 days! She was a lifesaver and did an amazing job, exactly reproducing a cake we had googled a picture of, with a few minor changes that we wanted.

Our flower girl.

Our groom's boy.

Jia Shing and his wife, Yu Fen.

Sue handing over the red envelopes to Pei Han.

Our photographer, Hong Jun, who took most of the pictures on these pages.

After three hours, Pei Han and I bid farewell to our guests by giving them cup cake shaped versions of our wedding cake. Again, this was unconventional, because I refused to hold trays of candies and cigarettes for our guests as they left, which is usual at Taiwanese weddings and which we had to at our Dinghun. Here we are with Sabrina, a very good friend, a student of mine and mother of Loren.

Our five elementary school musicians: Joseph, Jon, Loren, Mary, Gina and Joseph and Mary's mother.

My boss, Megan, and her husband, Alan.

Becky, a Canadian English teacher, presenting me with a rose! Behind her is her boyfriend, Alan, also from Canada, who works with me at school.

Diddy, who is a good friend and colleague, and her friend, Ping. The two of them prepared balloons for the children as they entered.

My in-laws.

My brother-in-law, Chi Cheng, and his wife, Ji Ting.

My other brother-in-law, Chi Hou, and his girlfriend.

Pei Han's cousin, Yu Ting, and her boyfriend, Buo Jhe.

My surrogate Taiwanese family: Kevin, Alice, Brooke and Elaine. Kevin and Elaine stood in as my parents in marriage negotiations with Pei Han's parents and at our Dinghun.

My wonderful family: Wesley, Faye, Glenn and Audrey.

Pei Han threw her bouquet AT Diddy, which was a huge shock for her!

A-Shin, who videotaped our wedding, wanted Pei Han and I to look lovingly at our little wedding cake as a possible way of ending the DVD he is going to make, but we had to do a few takes to get it right, which we and everyone watching us find incredibly amusing!
