The Wedding Reception

Two candle-bearing waiters lead the bride and groom's entrance to the reception, at which about 500 people were present, including family, friends and business associates.

Chi Cheng and Ji Ting sit for the first of the 12 wedding banquet courses.

After a few courses Ji Ting changed out of the wedding dress and into the first reception dress.

The couple and their parents on stage, where they stood silently for about 30 minutes while a parade of speakers, from family members to political and business leaders, gave all kinds of meaningless speeches while everyone else kept eating. When the speeches were over they left the stage without having said a word, but were now officially introduced to the world as a married couple.

Chi Cheng's father singing karaoke with one of the reception's hostesses. Karaoke is a popular form of entertainment at Taiwanese weddings.

The couple and the groom's parents go to each table and thank the guests who in turn toast the couple.

After all the courses are served, about 3 hours after the reception began, Ji Ting changed into her second reception dress to say goodbye to the guests.

In the restaurant foyer the couple await their departing guests. Ji Ting is holding a tray of sweets and Chi Cheng is holding a tray of cigarettes (for men only).

The new family.
