("Japanese Food" Continued)

ally, cakes are sold by the slice, so it's more common to buy a variety of slices than an entire single-flavor cake.  The icing is usually real whipped cream, and not too sweet.  Very nice!  Rice cakes make a nice change from potato chips.  Each rice cake is individually wrapped in paper and have a variety of seasonings.  And there's also a variety of manju, dough with sweet bean paste inside.  Don't knock it till you've tried it.

So you see, there's enough variety even for a picky eater from the U.S.  There's still a lot that I haven't tried yet, but I think I've been a good sport so far, having eaten octopus, squid, jellyfish, eel, chicken stomachs and hearts, and horse.  Sorry, Trigger.
