Returning to Them

Chapter 1

Elise carefully placed the last of her clothing in her dull, brown suitcase and shut the lid with a sigh. This was it. This was the day she would be allowed to return to her clan. Once she arrived at her new home, the nest they had built while she was away, she would be accepted as one of them once more.

The blonde pulled her luggage off of her former bed and lugged it out the door into the hallway. It was empty. A shiver ran down her spine when she caught sight of the stairs. The bomb had gone off just as she was running up a flight, chasing her two little brothers with Maddalin. The teen's eyes began to water as she remembered her once strong and powerful family, which had been reduced to a band of unfortunate offspring.

She had turned to a life of prostitution and drugs afterward, leaving her clan in the dust and breaking her younger cousin's carefree soul. Elise had only stood by and watched as Maddalin's heart turned colder and harder in response to the rough life she'd been forcefully thrust into. The raven haired girl had lost her faith in the deities the day humans murdered their clan, yet, she had never, truly, lost hope. She was forced into being happy by her friend, Guy, whom had been killed by the Shrieker, Grassor.

As the Siren thought about the evil creature, a smirk crossed her face. He had given her quite a battle but had underestimated her and she lived. It had been he who had lifted her up from her depression. He had kidnapped Madda, the cousin that had always looked up to her, along with the children of the clan. Elise could stand for neither and hunted him down, joining her clan in the process. Grassor was defeated, although, not dead, and the clan had come to Earth.

Elise grinned slightly and staggered toward the staircase, her fears gone. This dimension was far from boring and, even with her racism and opinionated ways, she was getting used to the humans as well as Nita, Maddalin's immortal grandmother. The only thing that was tearing her apart was the fact that Madda was concentrating more on her new friends than her. One of them was Nosedive and she loathed him with all her being. She began to count so as to control her temper and, with much agony, finally reached the lobby. The teen dropped her things on the floor and took a seat on one of the couches, waiting for her siblings to arrive.

The girl ended up waiting for a little over ten minutes, tapping her black boots on the tile floor in impatience, before the triplets came. Elise sat erect as the two men and one woman strode into the room. Her eldest brother, Mike, immediately ran over and crushed her in a huge bear hug.

"It's so good to have you come back to us." he stated, squeezing her tighter.

"Mike!" she wailed, "I can't breathe!"

"I know."

"Ah, help!" Her cries for help were answered when their sister Anastasia, Stacy for short, came over and snatched her baby sister from her twin.

"Please, Michael, try to control yourself." she scolded and turned to her other sibling. "Like he said, Elise, it will be--it is good to have you back in the clan. We've all missed you dearly. Especially Maddalin."

"Yeah, I, uh, figured that one out for myself." the younger female responded. "But I guess me and the midgets are gonna hafta get used to one another, huh?" Stacy nodded sadly but gave her sister a bright smile.

"I'm sure they'll love you all the same." she reassured.

"Okay," Frank, their other brother, called from the desk. "I've checked her out. Let's get moving folks."

"Aye, aye, cap'n!" Elise replied, saluting him. He smiled and shook his head at her before lifting one of her bags off the floor and walking out the lobby door.
