Harold Pinter
HAROLD PINTER is an actor, director, poet, essayist, screenwriter, political activist, and one of the most influential playwrights of the past 5o years.  He was born in East London in 1950, and was a repertoory actor in his youth.  His 29  plays include "The Room," "The Birthday Party," "The Caretaker," "The Homecoming," "Old Times," "Mountain Language," and "Ashes to Ashes."

Pinter has been an outspoken critic of the NATO bombing of Serbia and, more recently, of Britain and the United States' instigation of the Iraq war. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2005.  Pinter has recently stated that he intends to focus on his poetry, and has no plans to write another play.
