THE QE2 PLAYERS PRESENT

MOONLIGHT

Nobel Laureate Harold Pinter’s Haunting and Poetic 1993 Drama

THE QE2 PLAYERS proudly announce their spring 2006 production of MOONLIGHT by Harold Pinter.  MOONLIGHT will be directed by Michael O’Halloran, and will run at the Boston Center for the Arts from June 28 to July 1; performances will be at 8pm Wednesday through Saturday, with a 2pm matinee on Saturday July 1.  Tickets are priced at $25 with discounts for seniors, students, and groups, and can be purchased in person at the Calderwood Pavillion Box Office, 527 Tremont Street; online at BostonTheaterScene.com; or by calling 617-933-8600.

“What a wonderful woman you were.  You had such a great heart.  You still have, of course.  I can hear it from here.  Banging away.”  - Andy to Bel, Moonlight

MOONLIGHT is one of Harold Pinter’s most recent plays, and certainly one of his most human.  Andy, a bedridden civil servant – with his levelheaded wife Bel at his side --confronts the “new horizon” of death with dry humor and a defiant curiosity.  Beneath the calm, however, we find a haunting and poetic drama of forgiving – a mother and two sons negotiating the gap between anger and longing, a daughter spanning the distance between the kitchen and the grave.  MOONLIGHT is a dreamscape of tangible emotion from the living master of our language.

"There is no playwright his equal... Pinter works the language as a master pianist works the keyboard.  This is classical playwriting, make no mistake about it."
- Martin Gottfried, New York Post review of "Moonlight"

THE QE2 PLAYERS were founded in Boston six years ago, and are dedicated to producing plays with meaningful roles for older women.  The company focuses on contemporary work from Great Britain, Ireland and Australia.  They seek out works that reveal older women as complex, dynamic people with strong, seasoned voices.  Their most recent production was of Alan Bennett’s Talking Heads 2 monologues, which played at the BCA in the spring of 2005 and in April 2006 at the West End Theater in Gloucester.  Past productions have included Sunil Kuruvilla’s Fighting Words; Talking Heads I, the first complete local staging of Mr. Bennett’s first set of Talking Heads monologues; Willy Russell’s Shirley Valentine; Irish playwright Geraldine Aron’s The Donahue Sisters; Ayshe Raif’s portrait of London, Cafe Society; Scotswoman Evelyn Hood’s comedy Genteel; an adaptation of Edith Wharton’s masterpiece Roman Fever; and Waltzing Australia, an original work about the peculiarities of life Down Under.
