1969-1972

General Yahya Khan took over Government in 1969 and he announced general election will be held in 1970. At that time the famous political parties which cotested election were Pakistan Muslim League (Qayyum Group President Khan Abdul Qayyum Khan), Pakistan Muslim League (Council President Mian Mumtaz Daultana), Pakistan Muslim League (Convention President Fazal-ul-Qadir Chudhary), Awami League (President Sheikh Mujib-ur-Rehman), Pakistan People's Party (Chairman Zulifqar Ali Bhutto), National Awami Party (Wali group President Khan Abdul Wali Khan), National Awami Party (Bhashani Group President Maulana Abdul Hameed Khan Bashani), Jamat-e-Islami (Amir Maulana Modoodi), Pakistan Jumhori Party ( President Noor-ul-Amin from West Pakistan Nawabzada Nusrallah Khan), Jamiat-ul-Ulamai Islam (Head Maulana Mufti Muhammod) and Tehrik-e-Istqlal (President Air Marshal Asghar Khan).

The office bearer of Pakistan Muslim League (Qayyum Group) were President Khan Abdul Qayyum Khan,Genaral Secretary Khan Abdul Saboor Khan, Chief Organizer West Pakistan Mukhdoomzada Hussan Muhammood and Chief Organizer East Pakistan Waheed-u-Zaman. The leader who contested election from Pakistan Muslim League were from NWFP Inayat-ur-Rehaman Abbasi, Prince Aurang Zeb from Bulochistan Mir Nabi Bux Zahri, Mir Qadar Bux Zahri, sons of Khan Qulat, Jam Yousaf from Punjab Khalid Mustfa Shah Gillani Rawalpindi, Ch. Faiz sialkot, Haji Ibrahim Ansari Gujranawala, Nawabzada Asghar Ali Gujrat, Riaz Majeed Jhang, Qayyum Awan Faisalabad, Rana Fazal-ur-Rehman Muhammod Sheikhpura, Ahamad Saeed Karamani Lahore, Ghulam Muhammad Manica Sahiwal, Galini Group Multan, Mukhdoomzada Hussan Muhammood Bahawalpur From Sindh Pir Pagaro group , Piar Ali allana and From East Pakistan Khan Abdul Saboor Khan, Waheed-ul-Zaman, Abdul Qadir Chudhari,Abdul Shakoor. The symbol for election for Pakistan Muslim League (Qayyum Group) was Lion.

The manifesto of Pakistan Muslim League was Islamic. Khan Abdul Qayyum Khan addressed the election meetings in whole country. He said strong centre is essential for the survival of Pakistan. He opposed the socialism, six points of Awami League because it was proposed in six points separate Currncy and Defence for each province. Khan Abdul Qayyum Khan told in the Public meetings that Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan, Wali Khan, Abdul Samad Achakzai, G.M Syed and Sheikh Mujeeb-ur-Rehman are not loyal to Pakistan. Khan Abdul Qayyum Khan was addressing meeting in East Pakistan he was asked to reply in Bangla, Khan abdul Qayyum Khan said ask the question from me in Pushto I will reply in Bangla. Khan Abdul Qayyum Khan worked hard in elections he addressed many Public meetings in one day in all cities of Pakistan. In the election Awami League won (161) all the seats from East Pakistan except the Noor-ul-Amin and Raja Tiri Dev Rai, From West Pakistan Pakistan People's Party 81 seats.Pakistan Muslim League (Qayyum Group) 9,Pakistan Muslim League (Council)7, Pakistan Muslim League (Convention)2, Jamat-e-Islami 4, Jumiat-ulama-Islam 6, National Awami Party (Wali Khan Group)3 and Jumiat-e-Ulamai Pakistan won 7 seats.

The deatail of sats of Pakistan Muslim League(Qayyum Group) was 7 seats from NWFP, one seat from Punjab and one seat from Sindh. In the provincial elections Pakistan Muslim League (Qayyum Group) won 15 seats out of 40 from NWFP, 7 from Punjab, 2 from Bulochistan and 3 from Sindh. In NWFP Khan Abdul Qayyum Khan contested for three national seats from Peshawar, Huzara and Abbatabad. Khan Abdul Qayyum Khan was elected from all three national seats. Khan Abdul Qayyum Khan also contested for the provincial seat from Peshawar but after the defeat in national assembly election National Awami Party withdraw its candidate in support of Hayat Muhammad Sherpao(people's Party). National Awami focused on this seat and Khan Abdul Qayyum Khan was not elected from this seat. In NWFP Khan Abdul Qayyum Khan kept the seat from Abbotabad and left from Peshawar and Huzara. He gave the ticket from Peshawar to Yousaf Khattak (Provincial President of Council Muslim League) and from Huzara Hanif Khan (Provincial president of Convention Muslim League) in bye eletion. The Muslim League was united in NWFP under the leadership of Khan Abdul Qayyum Khan. Muslim League won the bye election. In the provincial Assembly of NWFP Pakistan Muslim League won 15 seats, National Awami Party 13 seats, Pakistan People's Party 3 and JUI 5 seats. Khan Abdul Qayyum Khan gave the tickets to Yousaf Khattak and Hanif Khan their brothers were members of Provincial Assembly so Khan Abdul Qayyum Khan increased the strength of Pakistan Muslim League from 15 to 17. Now JUI demanded they will co-operate the Party which will give Chief Ministership to them and Wali Khan offered them so Moulana Mufti Muhammood formed the provincial government of NWFP.

After the election of 1970 it was the basic function of National assembly to form the consitution of Pakistan. President Yahya Khan tried to settle the issues before the Assembly session between the parties but Awami League did not agree and there was agitation started by Awami League. India helped them and attacked Pakistan in 1971 and East Pakistan was seprated. Yaha Khan left the Government and Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto replaced Yahya Khan. Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto requested Khan Abdul Qayyum Khan to cooperate with his Government. Khan Abul Qayyum Khan accepted his offer in the interest of Pakistan because after the separation of East Pakistan, Pakistan was in crises.
