Abstract

 

The study area is part of Mughsayl area, which lies in the Dhofar region.  Pre-permian sandstone sequence Cretaceous sequence, Tertiary sequence and Nar conglomorate, formation is the rocks exposed in the study area.

The Tertiary sequence dominates the study area.  The five major formations of the Tertiary sequence In an ascending order are Umm er Radhuma, Ashawq, Mughsayl, Adawnib, and Nar formation.  The Pre-Permian Sequence in our study area represented only by El Hota-Ain Sarit formation and the Cretaceous sequence is represented by Qishn formation.

The study area associated with a large-scale extensional fault from the east to the west. Milliods, Alvelina and Nummulites are relatively abundant In the Tertiary sequence.
