The Judge can be bought

A couple of weeks after I took delivery of my Formula I started to notice a  sound from the engine compartment. I took it to my dealer and was told that it was 'piston slap'. This occurs when when an engine is equipped with a loose piston-to-bore clearance due to a high rate of piston expansion when heated. In an LS1 this would indicate a slightly large bore dimension or a change in piston construction by the piston manufacture. If the silicone content was changed, the expansion rate would change and would create the noise that I noticed.

My dealer call GMs technical department and described the problem, the solution recommended was to replace the engine. I never expected this on a car with less that 400 miles on the clock. The dealer ordered a production LS1 replacement engine and was told it would be delivered in a week. It was three weeks later and still no engine. I called my dealer and spoke to the director of parts and service. He spoke to GMs PMD rep and advised him that they had my car longer that I did and wanted to compensate me. I told him that if they gave me a set of OEM chrome wheels that would make up for the long wait. That's exactly what GM did and the GM Protection Plan extended warranty with zero deductible at no extra cost.

The only way to get chrome wheels was to order the 1SB package at $1500 for the privilege of spending $600 more for the wheels, I ordered my Formula with only Traction Control, GSCs and 3.23 gears.
