On Thursday, November 22nd 2001, I attended a very inspiring seminar by Caroline Thornton, President of NADUM Inc. The subject of her talk was
PASSION
A week ago, my roommate and I started having a "Word of the Week" on our (huge) white board. Last week's was 'Prioritize'. This week was 'Passion'. Startling, isn't it?
Like all motivational speakers, Ms. Thornton had two key acronyms:
ACE (Adaptability, Communication, Enthusiasm) and PASSION (Personal commitment, Active involvement, Serious relationships, Sincere recreation, Intellectual challenge, Open-mindedness, Never stop)
Other tidbits of wisdom she shared were:
1) Speaking: "Um" is not a word in the English language. Speak slowly.
2) Too many grads have "expectations of entitlement". It is NOT your RIGHT to be awarded if you arrive at work early, leave work late, work 100 hours/wk, etc.
3) Try to make value-added decisions - contribute and make a difference!
4) Make your work one part of your "Perfect Day".
5) Remember: fitness, nutrituion, sleep.
6) "Live, Love, Laugh and Leave a Legacy" (Stephen Covey)
7) Make time to be human.
8) Change is constant. Nothing is forever.
