Devil May Cry 2 looked like an awesome game. I mean, hell, the first one was cool. Mostly. The sequel had some of the same elements missing, though. But, before pessimism kicks in, I'll tell ya about the good points. The concept of the game (a duel pistol wielding, half-demon guy with a cool outfit and an awesome Harley fighting dark forces) is great. Dante, the main guy, has new abilities. Amulets allowing Dante to fly, run fast, use elemental attacks, and improve his regeneration or attack power are added (though you can only use most of these abilities in Devil Mode). Of course new weapons were added. The new ones were great, a pair of sub-mechs and a rocket launcher (it's about time). Dante is also equipped with a Matrix type of wall climbing ability. It's really cool, and handy in combat. There's also a new character, Lucia, who is equipped with swords, much like Rayne had in Blood Rayne (the arm swords), and throwing knives. She's not very strong, but gets great combos. The graphics, of course, are also really good and the movies have improved since the last game. But, now the part the fans don't want to hear. The bad points. The biggest downfall, as with the last game, is the difficulty level. Honestly, when I can beat both disks of the game on hard mode in one sitting, it's pretty pathetic. The hardest enemy in the game is Dante's last opponent, and he's pretty pathetic. Also, the weapons (except Dante's guns) really blew. They took Sparda's Sword out of the game, which was very dissapointing. Lucia's disk was just pure boredom, especially the underwater levels. The bosses were ok in this one, except for the fact that 2 bosses who died in the old game come back. Phantom, that damned lava spider who dies like 6 times, and that bird who uses lighting and gets killed 3 times come back for another couple of fights. Lastly, the story line sucked. By the end of the game, I finally realized what was going on, and it was a crappy story. Devil May Cry 2 was kind of a disappointment, but you can always go and rent it yourself to see if you like it. In the words of the Reading Rainbow dude...You don't have to take my word for it... |
